Puberty

Puberty is the time in life when a child begins to feel, through the changes in his/her body, the end of a period in life, the end of childhood.

It is a period of time that overlaps with adolescence, but we like to talk about it as separate stage and give it its importance because we believe that we have to pay attention to the different tones of each time in life. They are not children nor adults; they are not even adolescents. It’s a short period, compared to other stages in the psychological growth, but can still have its particularities and consequences.

Many children are proud of growing and realizing how their bodies are changing. They feel they are accepted and liked, even if they feel embarrassed, they begin to tolerate de beginning of the change in them. There is also de child that feels insecure and anguished with this changes and how he/she copes with them makes a big difference on the future psychological development.

Low school performance, sudden change in school marks, obsession about weight control or about body muscles. Problems with schoolmates (bullying), excessive sadness or excessive retreat, are signals that we have to pay attention to.
